How To Become A Cosmetologist In Oklahoma

Have you always had big dreams about becoming a cosmetologist? We’re here to help you turn your dreams into a reality. Pursuing a career in cosmetics can seem daunting at first, especially when you don’t know all the steps required! We’re here to help! We created a step-by-step guide to becoming a cosmetologist in Oklahoma, so you can feel confident and prepared as you start your journey. Every state has its own licensing requirements, so let’s dive into what’s required in Oklahoma!

Attend Beauty School

Your first step to becoming a cosmetologist is finding a school that you love. At Broken Arrow Beauty College, we are dedicated to providing an educational experience that will prepare you for a career in the professional world. As a Pivot Point member school, we are able to offer a unique curriculum. Our curriculum is created to help students solidify their skills and techniques while developing their business skills.

To get your cosmetologist license, your studies must be at least 1500 hours in length. Our cosmetology program is 1500 total hours and as our students learn and master each technique, they are then able to practice these skills in the student salon. This is a great opportunity for our students to master their skills before they enter the real world! Students can grow in their abilities while practicing customer service and building their own clientele.

In our cosmetology program, you can expect to learn:

  • Theory
  • Manicuring and Pedicuring
  • Facials (includes makeup)
  • Shampooing / Conditioning / Rinses / Scalp Treatments
  • Hair Styling
  • Hair Color Tints / Bleaches / other Color Treatments
  • Hair Cutting with Shears, Razor and Clippers (includes Beard grooming)
  • Fundamentals of Business Management, State Board Rules and Regulations
  • Hair Restructuring, Permanent Waving, and Chemical Relaxing

In this program, you can choose between a full-time or a part-time schedule. Depending on the schedule you choose, you can graduate in as little as 12 months!

Pass The Written And Practical Exams

Now that you’ve graduated, it’s time to take and pass your exams! These exams come in two parts: the written exam and the practical exam. Once you are within 100 hours of completing your program, you can fill out an Exam Registration Application. This application must be done within 10 days of completing your training.

The exams will cover the following subjects:

  • Physical demonstration of basic cosmetology tasks
  • Theory behind cosmetology procedures
