As we continue to get more information about the COVID-19 outbreak, it’s easy to feel uncertain about your future. With many events and plans canceled, you may be wondering what you can do now to make sure you’re ready to hit the ground running for your career when this is finally over. At Broken Arrow Beauty College, nothing is more important than teaching our students how to succeed in a safe environment. That’s why we’ve moved our cosmetology and esthetics programs online temporarily. Not sure what an online beauty education looks like? Don’t worry, we go through and answer all your questions below!

1. How Can I Learn Beauty Techniques Without Practicing Them on Clients?

This is likely to be your biggest question when considering an online beauty education. Normally in our esthetics and basic cosmetology programs, students study by practicing a variety of techniques on real clients under the direct supervision of licensed instructors. It’s no surprise that this is a little hard to do with social distancing and we’re still working out how to incorporate this side of your education in a safe way. What we can do now is give you all the lessons you need for an amazing beauty foundation! After all, you need to have a good grasp on the techniques before you can start working with clients.

Part of your beauty education has always included a theory portion and that hasn’t changed. During your temporary online education, we’ll focus on teaching you the science behind beauty and other theoretical lessons so you can be ready to complete your education and practice on clients when it’s safe.

2. What Will Lessons Look Like?

Our team has been doing incredible work to set up an online learning system that works best for our students. As a temporary online student with us, you’ll have access to numerous online learning tools like Pivot Point’s Learn About Beauty (LAB) online training system, Zoom for instructor interactive lectures, and Kahoot! for quizzing yourself. Here are some ways you can expect to learn in our beauty programs:

• Quizzes
• Webinars
• Lectures from instructors
• Work exercises

We are lucky to have a team of educators who are committed to helping students succeed. Along with our learning tools, our instructors also have ZipWhip, an app that allows them to text with students. It’s understandable that online learning can be a bit intimidating, especially if you’ve never done it before. That’s why we want to have all these tools available for you to use so you can talk with us whenever you have any questions. Interactive communication is the key during this time!

3. What Other Resources Does Your School Use That Help With Online Learning?

Those online tools aren’t the only resources you can have at your disposal! We have always been proud to be the longest running Pivot Point Legacy school in Oklahoma. Now with everything that’s happened, this can be an even bigger advantage for our students! In this online learning system, students gain a beauty foundation in theoretical and technical skills through six modules. Every student who enrolls in our programs will receive an online code for the Pivot Point Learn About Beauty (LAB) system to start this exciting learning experience!

Along with Pivot Point, we are also happy to announce that we are now partnering with Beauty as a Business (BaaB). We all know that social media is huge and people are using it now more than ever. But have you ever wondered how you could engage with those users and even promote your career through something you already know and use? That’s what BaaB teaches you and the best part is that it’s focused entirely on helping beauty professionals build their social network. All this time at home is the perfect excuse to spend more time on social platforms and learn how to use them to your advantage!

4. Will I Still Receive Beauty Supplies for My Education?

As we adjust to learning temporarily online, students will need to wait to pick up things like kits, mannequins, and other practical supplies. These are not needed during the theory portion of your education. What you will need for online learning is a theory book where you can complete your exercises and learn skills that set you up for success for your practical stage of education.

Don’t worry, you won’t have to leave your house to get these books! We have e-books available for all our students to use. If you do prefer a physical copy, contact us and we can work with you to pick it up at our school while still adhering to the guideline set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

5. What Does My Schedule Look Like?

It’s safe to say that at this point, we’re starting to realize that one of the biggest challenges of being at home is managing your time. So how have we made sure that students are still getting the most out of their online training? To help students transition to online learning, we’ve kept our school hours the same. That means that students will still begin school at our usual time of 8:30 in the morning and finish sometime in the afternoon depending on if they’re a part-time or full-time student.

During this class time, students will interact with instructors, work on assignments and receive feedback from beauty professionals. It’s just like our regular class structure with the only difference being that you’re studying from home!

6. How Do I Get Started?

Social distancing won’t stop us from helping you start your dream career! Even though we’re not seeing our students in person, we’re still communicating with them all the time. That means we can answer your questions and get you started though video chat or phone call. Whether you want to know about additional financial aid options available during the outbreak or more details about your education, we’re here for you during every step of the enrollment process!

Since our next start dates are aimed to start in late May or early June, we hope this outbreak will slow down by then and everyone will be safe to learn in our school. However, the most important thing is that everyone is healthy so we’re prepared to begin our education online. The best thing to do is to get the conversation with our admissions team started so we can set you up to come out of this hectic time with a plan!
